The Day Has Won is a song about struggling with reality and trying to find somewhere to escape. The daytime represents reality and the night-time provides a solace where we can transport ourselves somewhere else for a while.
While the song centres around a tumultuous relationship, it could represent any number of problems that we encounter in our personal lives.
Although we are given strict guidelines in how to deal with such problems, it is in our nature to just get out of our heads to try to escape.
lyrics
I’m like the clothes that you used to wear
The smell of John Player can’t get out of your hair
A line in the sand just before you could cope
Expensive whiskey mixed with cheap coke
I love your sadness
I need the fun
The night is waiting
The day has won
And I
I’ve been crucified
Can I’ve a quick word with you outside?
You will always be my special bride
Who knows what goes on right behind the door
Keep me in your head and I’ll hurt you more
Let’s leave our heads tonight
Because we’re not half dead we’re half alive
And the ground beneath your feet
Has become a battle ground for me
The atmosphere has changed in the room
I’m like a lunatic circling you
The atmosphere has changed in our lives
I’ll take my circling outside
I’ll cry into my whiskey to prove you wrong
I’m getting emotional
The day has won
So let’s leave our heads tonight
Because we’re not half dead we’re half alive
And the ground beneath your feet
Has become a battle ground for me
I’ll be good to you
Just don’t walk into doors
And when you run me over
I’ll try to ignore
And we’ll leave our heads tonight
Because we’re not half dead we’re half alive
And the ground beneath your feet
Has become a battle ground for me
No one ever put a gun against your head
You walked in here and you didn’t need any help
But look at you now you need somebody else
You need somebody else
You need somebody else

It's uncanny just how good Actors is at emulating that Post-Punk synth sound from my younger days.
Each listen just gets better and better. I feel slightly ashamed for not having heard this album until a few short days ago. modestwriggles
