While I was in Guadalajara in Mexico I met a man who was travelling on his own from Guatemala. He was travelling on the top of a massive train across the country and had to deal with unthinkable danger. He had left his wife and son behind in order to build a better life for them, not knowing if or when he would see them again. He was trying to get to Nevada where he had a cousin who could help him get work. The song is about him and the countless people making that journey everyday.
